Falcons Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Falcons' secondary has received its share of offseason scrutiny after the team elected not to re-sign safety Lawyer Milloy and let Domonique Foxworth sign a lucrative deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Milloy added the glue that kept the young unit together. Foxworth was team's best man-to-man cover corner on a unit that gave up 220.4 yards passing a game (21st in the league). The Falcons planned for Milloy's eventual exit by drafting Thomas DeCoud in the third round in 2008 and William Moore in the second round of last month's draft. They also re-signed Jamaal Fudge, who was Milloy's backup last season. Moore, because he is more of a classic strong safety, figures to have the inside track. Read more...

Falcons Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Falcons are in an all-out rebuilding mode on defense. Since the start of free agency, they left to door open for five starters to leave and they waved good-bye to all of them. The team only elected to re-sign reserve defensive end Chauncey Davis. Heading up the list of cast-offs was 11-year veteran Keith Brooking, the last player remaining on the roster from the franchise's only Super Bowl team. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Also allowed to leave were cornerback Domonique Foxworth (Baltimore Ravens), linebacker Michael Boley (New York Giants), defensive tackle Grady Jackson (Detroit Lions) and safety Lawyer Milloy. The remaining key veterans are defensive end John Abraham, more of a leader by example, and safety Erik Coleman, who's now the team's... Read more...

Falcons Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Falcons' brain trust has put their defense under a great deal of offseason scrutiny. The final analysis is that they must get better. Depending on what happens in free agency, the unit could be undergoing a major overhaul, Falcons head coach Mike Smith has acknowledged. "We definitely have some holes to fill on our football team," Smith said. "We are going to take a good strong look on the defensive side of the football. But we're not going to say that we are going strictly defense." Five starters - Grady Jackson, Keith Brooking, Michael Boley, Domonique Foxworth and Lawyer Milloy are set to become free agents. The team has said Milloy won't be offered a new contract. Read more...

Falcons Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Tampa Bay appeared to take control of Sunday's game right before halftime. Despite getting knocked around for most of the first half, the Bucs drove 67 yards on seven plays in just 1:04 and got a touchdown with 11 seconds left to make it 10-7. Quarterback Brian Griese was completing passes to wide receivers Antonio Bryant and Mark Clayton. Bryant had seven catches for 106 yards in the first half. You just figured that if the Falcons didn't do something with Bryant, that the second half would belong to Griese and Bryant. After the Falcons' overtime win, cornerback Domonique Foxworth pointed out that the coverage in the secondary got tight. The better combination of zones spooked Griese into holding the ball a little longer and helped John Abraham get to... Read more...
